Indian River County, FL (April 21, 2021) – Five people were hurt in a five-vehicle collision that blocked 27th avenue for some time on Tuesday, April 13, according to officials in Indian River County. The wreck was stated to have occurred at around 4:15 p.m.
According to reports, it happened in the 300 block of 27th Avenue just south of 4th Street. The incident involved a Ford Escape, a Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, Honda Civic, and a Mazda 3.
Local officials stated that the Honda was headed north when it slammed into the back of the Silverado, resulting in a chain-reaction accident. The Silverado struck the Escape while the Mazda crashed into the rear-end of the Honda, reportedly.
The Mazda then drove into the southbound lanes of traffic and crashed into the Sierra that was headed south at the time. The driver of the Mazda, a man from Vero Beach, was transported by ambulance to LAwnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce with injuries deemed non-life-threatening.
Three other men and one woman, all Vero Beach residents, were transported via ambulance to the emergency room in Vero Beach for evaluation and treatment as needed. Those involved have not been identified to the public at this time.
Road closures were put in place between 1st Street Southwest and 4th Street for some time on the afternoon of April 13. The area was reopened around 6:00 p.m.
