Florida Pedestrian Accidents
Florida is ranked as the most deadly state for pedestrians in the United States. This is probably due to the high population and tourism rate. Many people travel to Florida each year for vacation due to the warm weather and abundant entertainment. Unfortunately, walking could be classified as a dangerous activity in the Sunshine State, which sees nearly 500 pedestrian deaths per year. On average, Florida accounts for nearly 20% of the yearly national pedestrian fatality rate.
Statistical studies have found that, on average, Florida sees approximately 9,000 pedestrian/bicycle collisions per year. As previously mentioned, our state simply has a higher population than most, which puts more people on the streets than most other states. This increases the risk for pedestrians to become involved in a traffic accident. A very large increase in the population in Florida has been seen in the past 60 years. The population was at around 2.8 million people in 1950, compared to a dramatic increase of around 700%, equivalent to around 18.5 million in 2008.
