Key West, FL (May 17, 2021) – A teenage girl lost her life on Thursday, May 13, in an accident in Key West. According to officials, the vehicle she was riding in was involved in a collision while speeding.
The incident occurred at around 6:15 p.m. on US-1, also known as Old State Road 4A near mile marker 17 on Sugarloaf Key. Reports indicate that a 2006 Cadillac CTS was traveling west on the roadway when it traveled into the eastbound lane for reasons still under investigation.
The Cadillac then left the roadway and drove down an embankment where it overturned and stopped in a muddy area. The teenage girl, age 13, was a passenger in the front seat at the time.
She was transported by ambulance to Mariners Hospital in Tavernier and then airlifted to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital in South Miami. She was pronounced deceased by medical professionals at around 9:20 p.m. on Thursday, May 13.
An 18-year-old man was also airlifted to Jackson South Medical center in order to be treated for injuries deemed critical in nature. A 23-year-old woman was also taken to the Lower Keys Medical Center with minor injuries.
