Miramar, FL (May 1, 2021) – A driver lost their life and a pedestrian was injured in an accident that resulted from a high-speed chase in Pembroke Park on Thursday, April 29. The incident occurred when police were pursuing a black Mercedes-Benz that was driving at a high rate of speed through a residential neighborhood.
During the chase, the Mercedes struck a pedestrian who was attempting to cross Hallandale Boulevard. The driver then lost control of the vehicle and it flipped approximately three times. The car then came to a final stop in a nearby shopping plaza.
The driver of the car was ejected during the crash. The vehicle then collided with numerous concrete parking stops, light poles, and a fire hydrant before landing on its roof and catching fire in the middle of the road.
Both victims were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. The driver was pronounced deceased shortly after arriving. The pedestrian was treated for injuries deemed serious in nature.
Neither of the injured have been identified at this time. Police continue to investigate the details of the wreck.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased at this time. Our thoughts are with the injured party in hopes of a full recovery.
Pedestrian Accidents in Florida
Unfortunately, pedestrian collisions in Florida happen frequently. The Sunshine State is well known for its theme parks, beaches, and year-round warm climate. These attractions and more draw millions of people here each year to enjoy everything our beautiful state has to offer. However, with more people, sadly, comes more traffic accidents. Florida’s pedestrian danger index is one of the highest in the United States, according to recent information provided by Smart Growth America. States and metropolitan areas throughout the country were ranked on how life-threatening it is for people to walk or ride bikes instead of drive. This information was based on the number of people who have been hit by cars and killed in the area. Florida ranks number one out of the twenty states that were examined. In 2019, from January to June, almost 400 people were killed due to Florida pedestrian crashes, a percentage of them bicyclists. These statistics prove that Florida is one of the most dangerous states for pedestrian/bicycle travel.
